Travel the off beaten path through the Dieng Plateau to experience the glorious sunrise from Sikunir Hill. Visit the natural wonders that call the Dieng Plateau their home including the colorful Telaga Warna Lake and the Sikidang Crater, together with ancient temples holding great cultural significance.
Get picked up from your hotel in Yogyakarta at midnight and travel in comfort to Dieng Plateau for roughly 3 hours. Ascend by foot for 30 minutes to the top of Sikunir Hill and enjoy the surrounding misty atmosphere while waiting for the most beautiful golden sunrise. Be rewarded by the panoramic view of up to 8 volcanoes from this vantage point (depending on weather conditions).
After witnessing sunrise over Sikunir Hill, head to Telaga Warna Lake after passing through Batu Pandang Hill. See with your own eyes the fluctuating colors of Telaga Warna Lake (also known as the ‘Colorful Lake’) turning from green to purple and yellow among other colors, a natural phenomenon caused when the sun’s rays hit the highly sulphuric water.
Continue your journey to the Sikidang Crater, an open sulphur crater filled with bubbling mud and constantly bellowing clouds of steam. You will feel like you’ve landed in another planet with the distinctly bumpy and dusty terrain surrounding the crater. Complete your tour with a visit to the Arjuna Temple complex, consisting of small Hindu temples showcasing Hindu architecture dating back to the 7th century.
